A large crevasse has opened up on the main hiking trail up to Snæfell. Hikers will need proper experience and equipment to attempt the hike. Extreme caution is advised. Talk to the rangers for more information about the conditions.

There is a thin top layer of ice with a slush layer below. There could be areas steep enough to trigger an avalanche.
